Carpenter Ants

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants are large, black ants commonly found in wooded areas and homes with moisture problems. Unlike termites, carpenter ants do not eat wood but excavate it to build their nests. They are often found nesting in damp or decaying wood, including structural lumber, trees, and outdoor debris. Carpenter ants can cause significant damage to wooden structures over time if left unchecked. To identify carpenter ants, look for their large size (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long), black or reddish-black color, and the presence of wood shavings or "frass" near nesting sites.
